Weed control at Tableland

Weed control at Tableland

Yulmbu community members spray Parkinsonia plants along the Fitzroy River.

Tableland is relatively weed-free compared to most areas of northern Australia.  The focus of our weed management activity is therefore on eradicating/containing any small infestations that do occur and preventing the introduction of new invasive weeds.

AWC has met the specific targets which were set in conjunction with the Yulmbu community:

  • The total area of grader grass infestation is being contained to less than 5 ha.
  • The density of mature Parkinsonia plants along rivers is less than 10 plants/km.
  • No butterfly pea or rubber bush have been recorded on Tableland.
