Feral herbivore control at Buckaringa

Feral herbivore control at Buckaringa

Goats and rabbits occur at moderate to high densities in the region.

AWC has an ongoing goat control program using a combination of trapping/mustering and shooting.  Shooting is carried out from the ground and in aerial operations (in conjunction with the local NRM Board).  The population of goats on Buckaringa is now very low, although invasion from neighbouring properties is an ongoing issue.

47 goats were removed in 2014

Rabbit control includes shooting by staff members and accredited, licenced volunteers.  Previously, a large number of warrens have been ripped and destroyed.  Blasting of warrens is also undertaken.  Rabbits are baited as required.
